Women's Healthcare

Women's Healthcare in Flower Mound, TX

See a female physician. Care that follows you through every stage, not just the appointment.

A woman's health needs at twenty-five look nothing like they do at forty-five, or at sixty. At Flower Mound Family Physicians, Dr. Nazia Malick and Dr. Li Wan provide women's healthcare that accounts for that — routine screenings, gynecologic care, menopause management and contraception, all inside a primary care practice that knows your history.

The Approach

Women's Health Care That Follows You Through Every Stage

Most women end up splitting their care. One office for the annual exam, another for everything else, and nobody holding the full picture. That split is where things get missed — a thyroid result nobody connects to the fatigue, a family history that never makes it into the screening conversation.

We do it differently here. Because we are your primary care practice, your women's health care sits alongside your blood pressure, your labs, your medications and whatever else you are managing. Your provider already knows your history when you walk in.

What we do and do not offer

We provide gynecologic care as part of family medicine. We are not an OB-GYN practice and we do not provide obstetric or prenatal care. If you become pregnant, or if something you bring to us needs a specialist, we will tell you plainly and help you get there.

Most of what women need year to year, though, we handle right here.

Care is available to women from their teens through their post-menopausal years, and we see patients from Flower Mound, Lewisville, Highland Village, Argyle and the surrounding communities.

What We Provide

Five Areas of Women's Health Care

Each of these is handled in our office, as part of the care you already receive here.

Service 1 of 5

Gynecologic Care

Gynecologic concerns rarely arrive at a convenient moment, and a lot of women wait longer than they should before bringing them up. You do not need to.

Our physicians evaluate and manage the concerns that come up most often in a family practice setting:

  • Irregular, heavy or painful periods
  • Pelvic pain and pressure
  • Recurring urinary tract and vaginal infections
  • Changes in discharge, bleeding between cycles, or bleeding after menopause
  • Questions about fertility and cycle tracking

What happens next depends on what we find. Sometimes it is a conversation and a prescription. Sometimes it means running labs or imaging first, and we can do a good deal of that testing on site rather than sending you elsewhere. When a concern falls outside family medicine, you get a referral and a clear explanation of why.

Preventive Care

Well Woman Exams and Annual Screenings

The well woman exam is the appointment that catches things early, and it is the one most often postponed. Ours is not rushed.

A typical visit covers:

  • A review of your health history, medications and family history
  • Blood pressure, weight and general physical assessment
  • A clinical breast exam
  • A pelvic exam and pap smear, when due
  • Age-appropriate lab work and screening recommendations
  • Time to raise anything that has been on your mind

That last one matters more than it sounds. Plenty of what gets diagnosed here starts as something a patient almost did not mention.

Screening schedules are not the same for everyone. Your age, your history and your risk factors all shape how often you need each test, and your physician will walk you through what applies to you rather than handing you a generic chart.

Service 2 of 5

Pap Smears and Pelvic Exams

If you are searching for where to get a pap smear near you, the answer is that you do not need a specialist for it. We perform pap smears and pelvic exams here, as part of your regular care.

A pap smear screens for cervical cell changes, which is how cervical cancer gets caught before it becomes cancer. The test itself takes a couple of minutes. Depending on your age and history, HPV testing may be done at the same time.

Pelvic exams let your physician assess the health of your reproductive organs and follow up on symptoms like pain, pressure or unusual bleeding.

We know these appointments make people tense. Our physicians explain each step before it happens, go at a pace you set, and stop if you need them to. You are never left wondering what is going on.

Results are reviewed with you, and if anything needs a second look, you will hear from us directly — not through a portal message you have to decode on your own.

Menopause and Perimenopause Care

Perimenopause can start in your early forties, sometimes sooner, and it often arrives without announcing itself. Sleep goes first for a lot of women. Then periods get unpredictable, moods shift, and the fatigue does not lift no matter how early you go to bed.

Too many women are told this is simply their age and sent home. It is a real physiological transition, it can last years, and it responds to being taken seriously.

What We Evaluate

Symptoms alone do not always tell the whole story, because thyroid conditions, anemia and other issues can look similar. Your provider reviews your symptom pattern and cycle history, and where it is useful, runs lab work to rule out other causes before settling on a plan.

Managing the Symptoms

Treatment depends on which symptoms are affecting you most and on the rest of your health picture. Your physician will discuss the options that are appropriate in your case, what each involves and what to realistically expect — including where the evidence is strong and where it is not.

Common areas of focus include hot flashes and night sweats, sleep disruption, mood and concentration changes, vaginal dryness and discomfort, and bone and heart health after menopause.

Because we are your primary care practice, none of this gets treated in isolation. If you are also managing blood pressure or cholesterol, those pieces stay connected, which matters more after menopause than before it.

Service 4 of 5

Clinical Breast Exams

A clinical breast exam is part of your well woman visit. Your physician checks for lumps, skin and tissue changes, and anything that has shifted since your last visit.

Found something yourself? Call and come in. Most breast lumps turn out to be benign, but that is a conclusion for an exam to reach, not something to decide at home while you wait for your next scheduled appointment.

When imaging is the right next step, your physician will explain why and coordinate the referral for mammography. Screening recommendations vary by age, family history and individual risk, so what is right for you may not match what a friend was told.

Service 5 of 5

Contraception and Family Planning

Birth control is not a decision you make once. What suited you at twenty-two may be wrong for you at thirty-five, and what your sister swears by may not suit you at all.

Your physician will talk through the options with you — how each one works, what the side effects tend to be, how it interacts with any conditions you have, and how easily it can be reversed if your plans change. Then you decide.

We prescribe and manage contraception as part of your regular care, which means refills and follow-up happen at the practice you already use.

If you have an IUD that is due to come out, or one you want removed early, we can take care of it here. You do not need a referral to a specialist for a removal.

Family planning conversations are welcome too, whether you are thinking about trying for a pregnancy soon, later, or not at all. All three are reasonable answers and none of them get a lecture.

Why Patients Stay

Why Women Choose Flower Mound Family Physicians

Looking for a female doctor in Flower Mound? That is where a lot of our patients start.

Inside the Flower Mound Family Physicians office on Sagebrush Drive

See a Female Physician

Dr. Nazia Malick is a board-certified family physician and sees women's health patients here. For some patients that is a preference. For others it is the difference between raising a concern and swallowing it, and we would rather you raised it. Ask for her when you book.

Women's Health Inside Primary Care

Your pap smear, your thyroid panel, your blood pressure and your menopause symptoms are not separate files here. One practice, one record, one physician who can see how the pieces fit together. A standalone clinic does not have that view.

Testing on Site

Lab work, EKGs and other diagnostics are run in our office, so results come back faster and you are not driving to a third location between appointments.

Long-Term Care

We are here for the annual exam and for the years in between. Many of our patients have been with the practice through more than one stage of life, which is the point.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Women's Healthcare

Do I need to see a gynecologist for a pap smear, or can my family doctor do it?

Your family physician can perform pap smears and pelvic exams. Many women have these done as part of their annual visit with us rather than booking separately with a specialist. If a result needs specialist follow-up, we arrange the referral.

Are you an OB-GYN practice?

No. We provide gynecologic care as part of family medicine, but we do not offer obstetric or prenatal care. If you are pregnant or planning to be, we will help you find an OB-GYN and continue managing the rest of your health alongside them.

How often do I need a pap smear?

It depends on your age, your previous results and your risk factors. Intervals for most women are measured in years rather than months, and your physician will tell you what applies in your case at your visit.

What happens during a well woman exam?

A review of your health history, blood pressure and physical assessment, a clinical breast exam, a pelvic exam and pap smear if you are due, and age-appropriate screening recommendations. There is also time set aside for any concerns you want to raise.

Can you help with perimenopause symptoms?

Yes. Perimenopause often begins in the early forties and can bring irregular cycles, disrupted sleep, mood changes and fatigue. We evaluate your symptoms, rule out other causes where appropriate, and discuss management options suited to your situation.

Do you remove IUDs?

Yes, IUD removal can be done in our office and does not require a referral to a specialist. Call to schedule.

Can I get a birth control prescription here?

Yes. We discuss the available options, prescribe what suits you, and handle refills and follow-up as part of your ongoing care.

I found a breast lump. How soon can I be seen?

Call the office and we will get you in promptly. Most lumps turn out to be benign, but that should be confirmed by an exam rather than assumed.

Do you accept new patients and most insurance plans?

Yes to both. Our front desk can verify your specific plan before your visit — call 972-539-4875.

Do you see patients from outside Flower Mound?

Yes. Many of our patients come from Lewisville, Highland Village, Double Oak, Copper Canyon, Argyle and Bartonville.
